UK Retrospective
Liberating Cinema is honoured to launch The Liberating Cinema Film Series 2024, inviting you to join the UK-wide programme dedicated to 120 Years of Serbian cinema and 95 Years since the birth of the director Aleksandar Petrović. Our programme will tour London, St Andrews, and Edinburgh and we are grateful to our partners for their generous support.
Introducing Our Restoration Lab
We connect archivists, restoration specialists, curators, critics and historians of cinema to facilitate education, training, and public benefit. Our first Restoration Lab – 15th November at 18:00 UK – is focused on issues of archival processes in restoration, heritage through film identification and preservation management and features panelists Peter Bagrov, Tamara Shvediuk and Juan Soto Taborda.
The Triptych in Yugoslav Cinema Anthology Film Archives (NYC) 18-29 September 2024
Our director Mina Radović curates the international retrospective The Power of Three: The Triptych in Yugoslav Cinema at Anthology Film Archives in New York from 18 to 29 September 2024. The programme represents the first international exhibition of Yugoslav cinema spanning the Classical Studio System to the Prague School.
Black Wave to White Ray:
Yugoslav Cinema at MoMA (NYC)

Our director Mina Radović curates the international retrospective Black Wave to White Ray: Yugoslav Film of the 1960s at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York from 7 to 21 September 2023. The programme represents the first comprehensive exhibition of Yugoslav cinema and invites rediscovery of this major cinematic tradition.

Liberating Cinema is honoured to host the 110th Anniversary Symposium of the first Serbian feature film The Life and Deeds of the Immortal Vožd Karađorđe (Čiča Ilija Stanojević, 1911) and has the great privilege to present His Royal Highness Crown Prince Aleksandar Karađorđević of Serbia as our Guest of Honour for this 110th Anniversary Symposium. The Symposium held on 23rd October 2021 can be viewed via our YouTube Channel. We are grateful to His Royal Highness, the Royal House of Karađorđević, and the Royal Palace in Belgrade. The restored film is made available, courtesy of Jugoslovenska Kinoteka/Yugoslav Cinematheque, Belgrade.

Liberating Cinema is honoured to announce a masterclass with the celebrated film director, screenwriter, producer and cinematographer Ahmed El Maanouni. The masterclass is accompanied by a screening of the restoration of the film Alyam Alyam (1984), with the generous support of CHASE, AHRC UK, Goldsmiths, University of London, The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project and Cineteca Bologna. The masterclass will take place on the 22nd December at the Institute for Contemporary Arts in London at 18:30pm UK time and afterwards you will have the unique opportunity to meet the filmmaker.
